Kochi: A destitute home operating under the aegis of the Kochi corporation has been provided a facelift by naval personnel of INS Venduruthy, an Indian Navy base here.

INS Venduruthy has been extending its help to the 'Palluruthy Relief Settlement' for improving the quality of life of the residents as part of its Platinum Jubilee commemorative activities.

Vice Admiral AK Chawla, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Southern Naval Command (SNC) visited the Old Age Home and interacted with the residents, a Defence release said here.

The institution houses more than 200 inmates including senior citizens from various parts of Kerala.

The Admiral assured them of the continued support by the Southern Naval Command in meeting their needs.

A number of activities have been undertaken by INS Venduruthy at a cost of Rs 10 lakh towards supporting the Home.

These include civil works such as roofing, creation of ramps, repairs to bathrooms, clearance of clogged septic tanks using sewage suction trucks, etc, all of which have improved the habitability of the place.

Besides the work undertaken, various items have also been provided to the Home such as clothes, a refrigerator, water coolers and stainless steel work tables, the release said.

Regular visits by personnel from INS Venduruthy were also undertaken to clear the area of plastics and waste materials, it added.
