Binoy Kodiyeri gives blood samples for DNA test at Mumbai hospital

Mumbai/Thiruvananthapuram: Binoy Kodiyeri, the son of CPM state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan, presented himself at a hospital in Mumbai on Tuesday and gave his blood sample for a DNA test, as directed by the Bombay High Court.

The High Court division bench on Monday asked Binoy to give the blood samples in connection with a sexual abuse complaint against him. The test results should be handed over to the High Court registrar in a sealed cover.

The high court posted the case for August 26 when his petition requesting quashing of the FIR registered against him at the Oshiwara police station came before the court.

The blood samples given at the J J Hospital in Byculla, Mumbai will be handed over to a forensic lab in Kalina, Mumbai. Earlier, it was decided that the samples would be taken at a hospital in Juhu. Later, the police shifted the procedure to the J J Hospital.

The court directed that the test reports be placed in a sealed cover and handed over in two weeks time.

A 33-year-old Mumbai-based woman had filed a complaint before the police alleging that Kodiyeri had sexually exploited her for several years on the pretext of marriage and they had an eight-year-old child.

After being on the run for some time, Kodiyeri this month got bail from the Dindoshi court in Mumbai on the condition that he should undergo a DNA test while cooperating with the police investigation.

But he failed to undergo a DNA test on three occasions.

As per the conditions of the anticipatory bail plea, Binoy has to appear at the Oshiwara police station in Mumbai every Monday.

On the very first day he appeared at the police station, the cops asked for the blood samples. However, Binoy sought more time. During the next visit when Binoy was supposed to give the blood sample, he submitted a medical certificate as proof of his ill health.

The probe officer was not present during the third time and the samples were not given. After which, the High Court asked him to give the blood samples.

A Bihar native woman had alleged that Binoy had sexually abused her for years under the pretext of marriage and that she had a son in the relationship with him.

The woman had raised charges of sexual abuse, cheating, and threatening. The cops at the Oshiwara police station in Mumbai’s Andheri have registered the FIR and are probing the case.

However, Binoy had denied the allegations and said that this was an attempt to blackmail him. Though he admitted knowing the woman, Binoy claimed that her allegations were false.
