Dubai: Bharath Dharma Jana Sena (BDJS) president Thushar Vellappally, who is currently in UAE facing charges in a cheque bouncing case, has ruled out any further moves for an out-of-court settlement with the complainant, Nasil Abdullah.
He had earlier attempted to settle the Rs 19 crore cheque-default case with his former business associate by means oof negotiation.
“I will continue with the legal procedures and also explore possibilities of filing a case in India in connection with the issue,” said Thushar.
Referring to Nasil’s sound clips circulating in media which give indications that Thushar was trapped, the BDJS leader said that it proved his innocence. Thushar also said that it was deplorable that there was a move to communalise the matter.
On the other hand, a Dubai court rejected a demand for travel restrictions on Thushar based on a civil case filed by Nasil on Monday.
Thushar had earlier revealed to the media that there was a travel ban on him. A criminal case against him is under the consideration of a Ajman court, it was pointed out.
Earlier, Nasil had said that Thushar may utilize the sound clips to settle the issue in the BDJS leader’s favour. “Thushar and his supporters are seeking ways to escape punishment. However, there is no confusion that he owes me money,” said Nasil.
He continued: “The only dispute is over the amount involved. It is a fact that Thushar owes me money and he had left UAE without paying it. The finanncial burden I'm facing on account of his dues is immmense. Even then, Thushar is trying to avoid paying the money altogether or reducing the sum.”
Thushar leads the Kerala-based fledgling political party BDJS. It is an ally of the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA). His father Vellapally Natesan, a liquor baron, is the general secretary of the influential Ezhava community organisation named the Sree Narayana Dharma Paripalana Yogam or SNDP.
Thushar, who had contested the last Lok Sabha elections from Wayanad, was defeated by the then Congress President Rahul Gandhi.
