Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala Police have initiated a probe into the alleged illegal transfer of property of the Koodathil family, whose seven members had died under mysterious circumstances over a period of 26 years, at Karamana in Thiruvananthapuram district.
A case was filed on October 17 against 12 people, including the house caretaker Manakkad native Raveendran Nair, his son Anil Kumar and Raveendran Nair's aide Sahadevan. Allegations were raised that the will transferring around Rs 30-crore assets of the Koodathil family to the caretaker was fake.
Suspicions were also raised over the deaths of the family members one after the other.
Gopinathan Nair of the Uma Mandiram house of the Koodathil family, his wife Sumukhiamma, children Jayasree, Jayabalakrishnan, Jayaprakash, Gopinathan's nephews Unnikrishnan Nair and Jayamadhavan Nair had died during 1991-2017.
Unnikrishnan's wife Prasanna Kumari had filed the property case, alleging that a will was forged in the name of Jayamadhavan, who was mentally unstable, to claim the assets. Also, they were threatened to settle a case filed in court over the property in which her son had rightful ownership.
The police have already questioned those who have signed as witnesses in the will purportedly be prepared by the last deceased Jayamadhavan, 62. A domestic maid was also questioned.
Two mystery deaths to be probed now
The cops have decided to currently probe the mystery deaths of Jayaprakash and Jayamadhavan Nair. Jayaprakash (Devu) had reportedly died after falling from the cot on September 17, 2012, while Jayamadhavan had died after stumbling on the doorstep on April 2, 2017.
The police had then filed a case of unnatural death over Jayamadhavan's death and a post-mortem was also held.
A decision on whether the case on mystery deaths has to be handed over the Crime Branch would be taken on Monday.
