Students unable to write SSLC, Plus Two examination will be permitted to write SAY exams

Head teacher to ensure transportation for students writing exams

Thiruvananthapuram: Students unable to write the SSLC, Higher Secondary and Vocational Higher Secondary examinations scheduled from May 26 to May 30 will be permitted to write the SAY examination as regular students, the General Department of Education informed on Friday.

The Kerala government has also directed head teachers to ensure transportation for students writing the SSLC, higher secondary and VHSE exams from May 26 to May 30. In his order, the general education director has instructed all head teachers to arrange for the transportation with the help of class teachers.

They can seek the services of private vehicles, public transport, school bus, and vehicles of the PTA. Or, seek the help of local bodies, scheduled caste department or use the transportation services of the nearby school. If the schools are unable to arrange for transportation in this manner, they can hire a vehicle using special fee and PTA fund.

The Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) will conduct services to those schools that do not have own vehicles. Only half the ticket fares will need to be given.

However, the KSRTC still does not have permission to conduct inter-district services. Students, who are living along district border areas and studying in the neighbouring district, are apprehensive. The KSRTC authorities have said that inter-district bus services will be conducted if the government gives the nod.

Currently, the KSRTC is conducting special service for government officials, from Kasaragod district, working in Kannur.

This was allowed as the government officials are allowed to make inter-district travel to reach their workplace.

Around 13 lakh students will be writing the SSLC, higher secondary and VHSE exams.

No mention of thermal scanners

However, the order issued on the exam arrangements does not mention thermal scanners. The Centre had given permission to conduct exams while stipulating five conditions, including thermal screening.

Around 4,000 thermal scanners will be needed for the 3,000 exam centres in the state.

However, it is not practically possible to buy these many thermal scanners.

The education department authorities have hinted that the scanners would be brought in from the primary healthcare centres and local bodies.

Students to write CBSE exams at own schools

Union Human Resource Development Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal has said that students can write the CBSE board exams at their own schools.

Normally, CBSE exams are conducted at a different centre. However, this was changed to avoid travel as much as possible during this COVID-19 pandemic.

The CBSE said that transportation would be ensured and social distancing norms among other guidelines would be followed.

The exam is scheduled to be held in July. The results too would be declared by July end.
