More cases linked to fish market in Thiruvananthapuram
Poonthura

The number of fresh cases in Thiruvananthapuram on Monday were relatively low, seven, when compared to the 27 of the previous day.

Yet, for the second consecutive day, the number of contact cases were higher (four) than imported cases (three). Two cases reported in Poonthura, within Corporation limits, have links to Kumarichantha Fish Market, the spot from where the virus seems to have fanned out to the various parts of the district.

One was a 33-year-old male who was an head-load worker in the fish market. The other is a 22-year-old guest worker from Assam who works in a hotel in the city. He had visited the fish market two weeks ago, and the surmise is he could have contracted the virus from there.

The other two contact cases are in Parassala panchayat, out of the Corporation limits. One is a 55-year-old man who, according to the official release, does not have any travel history. However, Parassala panchayat president S Suresh said the man worked in a hotel in Kaliyikkavila in Tamil Nadu and so, according to him, would have contracted the virus from there. It is not clear whether he had been to his work place in the last month. He is said to have many contacts in the panchayat.

The other is a two-year-old child, the son of a 25-year-old female who tested positive on July 3. Suresh said the family could have got the infection from the child's father who, according to him, has a shop in Kaliyikkavila. "He was the first person in the family to develop a fever but he is healthy now. We think his immunity has kept him safe but he might have transmitted the virus to his wife and kid," Suresh said.

The other three positive cases in the district on Monday are from the UAE, Qatar and Saudi Arabia.
