Kasaragod: Eighty-five-year-old Narayani is elated. The elderly woman, from Bedadka in Kerala's Kasaragod district, has got back her gold earring that went missing 20 years ago.

The gold earring was gifted to Narayani during her wedding. However, this piece of jewellery went missing in 2000.

MGNREGS worker Baby and his group found the earring while they were working at Narayani's plot the other day. Narayani instantly recognised her earring.

"My parents had given the earring to me for my wedding. I was really saddened when it went missing. I was about 65 then. My family bought me a similar earring. But that could not make up for the loss, rt?" Narayani said.

When the earring was lost 20 years ago, the price of one sovereign gold was less than Rs 4,000; while the gold price on Tuesday nearly touched Rs 40,000.

The earring was lost near the well. And was found when the nearby land was tilled for cultivation. The soil near the well was recently moved using an earth-mover to the site of cultivation where the earring has been found.

Baby said that he was happy to see the pure delight on Narayani's face when she got the earring. “That’s the best gift ever,” he added.

Narayani's husband Kannan died six years ago. She currently lives with her son Balakrishnan.
