Mystery plus-two student fails to meet MLA Anil Akkara after accusing him of sabotaging Wadakkancherry Life Mission project

Thrissur: In a curious incident, Congress MLA Anil Akkara waited for around two hours on the roadside for a plus-two student named Neethu Johnson, who never turned up.

With the incident, the MLA has put an end to the cyber war against him.

A letter reportedly written by one Neethu Johnson urging Anil Akkara not to sabotage the Life Mission project in Wadakkancherry, the MLA’s constituency, was widely shared on social media.

In the letter, Neethu says that she is a plus-two student at Wadakkancherry Higher Secondary School (HSS) and lives with her poor mother in a shack on ‘puramboke’ land. According to Neethu, she and her mother had applied for a flat in the Life Mission project and the MLA’s actions could deprive them of a safe and secure home.

This letter had gone viral on pro-CPM social media groups. The name of the local Congress councillor Saira Banu was also mentioned in the letter. However, as enquiries by Anil Akkara revealed that there was no student named Neethu Johnson in Wadakkancherry HSS, the MLA decided to wait for her on Engakkad-Mankara roadside considering the mention in the letter that she lived somewhere near Mankara.

The MLA’s wait started at 9 am and he was accompanied by Ramya Haridas MP and Saira Banu. But, even after two hours Neethu did not reach the place.

Winding up the wait, Anil Akkara said Neethu or her mother could contact her anytime. He also filed a police complaint to trace the student.

Meanwhile, the MLA told Manorama Online, that the entire affair was an attempt to defame him. “The list of beneficiaries of the Life Mission project is yet to be prepared by the municipality,” he pointed out.
