COVID-19 positive ‘Corona’ gives birth to baby girl

Kollam: A COVID-19 positive woman, named Corona, gave birth to a baby girl in Kollam.

Corona, 24, is the wife of Ginu Suresh from Mathilil in Kollam district. While she was under treatment at the Kollam Medical College Hospital for COVID-19, Corona gave birth to her second child. Both the baby, Arpitha, and mother are fine.

When Corona had gone for her regular pregnancy-related tests at a hospital in Kollam, her swabs were also tested and the infection was confirmed. She was then shifted to the Kollam Medical College Hospital on October 10. She gave birth at 2.30 am on Thursday.

Corona is the daughter of Thomas from the Kattuvila family at Mathilil. She has a twin sister Coral. Thomas named her Corona, meaning a halo.

Ginu, an expatriate, is currently back home. The couple has a five-year-old son, Arnab.

For the family, Corona is not just the name of one of the members. A beauty parlour run by Thomas' wife Sheeba is also named Corona. Though the salon is shut now, the parlour functions out of their home.
