Thiruvananthapuram: The state cabinet on Wednesday announced financial assistance of Rs 5 lakh and a government job for the wife of Junior Warrant Officer A Pradeep, who died in the Air Force helicopter crash at Coonoor in Tamil Nadu earlier this month.

It was also decided to grant Rs 3 lakh from the Chief Minister's Distress Relief Fund for the treatment of Pradeep's ailing father.

Under normal circumstances, government-level assistance is given to the families of services personnel killed in combat.

However, the state cabinet gave special consideration to Pradeep, who was among the 14 fatalities, including Chief of Defence Staff General Bipin Rawat, in the accident that reportedly happened due to bad weather.

"The state remembers Pradeep's contributions to Kerala with love and pride. The state is grateful to him for volunteering for the rescue operations during the 2018 floods," noted Revenue Minister K Rajan.

The minister said that Pradeep was his family's sole breadwinner. His wife Sreelakshmi will be given a suitable job as per her educational qualification, the minister noted.
