Palakkad: The scheme offering lunch for Rs.20 at Kudumbashree Janakeeya hotels in the state is facing a crisis due to the inordinate delay in getting the State Government's subsidy. Boards have been put up in front of many hotels, saying that the meals scheme for Rs.20 is not available due to non-availability of government subsidy.

The Kudumbashree authorities held discussions with hotel owners to tide over the crisis. It is through the Kudumbashree hotels that subsidy is given to the Janakeeya hotels for running the scheme which offers lunch to common man at affordable prices. The State Government gives Rs.10 as subsidy for the meals.

The Janakeeya hotel owners are complaining they have not received the subsidy amount for the last many months. According to them, once they start getting subsidies, the scheme will be resumed.

Apart from the non-receipt of the government subsidy, the exorbitant price for vegetables and the increased price of Rs.2,000 for a cooking gas cylinder for commercial purpose have made the going tough for Janakeeya hotels. All these issues figured at the meeting held by the Kudumbashree authorities with the hotel owners.
