Evangelist Prof M Y Yohannan passes away, funeral today

Kolenchery: Prominent evangelist Prof M Y Yohannan has passed away.

He was 85.

Yohannan, who was the founder president of Christian Divine Fellowship and former principal of St Peter's College, Kolenchery, was under treatment at the Rajagiri Hospital in Aluva following age-related ailments.

The funeral service will take place at his residence at Valamboor in Malappuram district followed by burial at St Mary’s Orthodox Church at the same place on Monday evening.

His body will  be brought to his residence at 5 pm.

A member of the Mechangakra family, Yohannan began his official career starting as a teacher at the Rajarshi Memorial Higher Secondary School at Vadavucode village in the Ernakulam district.

He was the head of the Malayalam department at St Peter's College from 1964 to 1995. Subsequently, he was the principal of the college for two years.

Yohannan was the general secretary of “Swamedhaya Suvishesha Sangha” which was started in the 1950s. Christian Divine Fellowship was established in 1973.

He has written 180 spiritual books and Christian devotional songs. 

He leaves behind  wife and Nechupadam family member Alice (retired teacher), children: Dr Issac John (MD,Rafa Diagnostics), Joseph John (former MD cadre, Standard Chartered Bank), Mary Baby Meleth, Thomas John (MD, Agappe Diagnostics).
