Vigilance sleuths during the raid held at the checkpost on Monday.

Palakkad: Six officials of the Motor Vehicles Department who were caught taking bribes at the Walayar inter-state checkpost have been suspended.

Undercover Vigilance sleuths had caught the officials after they had taken bribes in the form of cash, vegetables, and fruits from drivers of goods vehicles.

The vigilance had seized Rs 67,000 during the raid on Monday night at the Kerala-Tamil Nadu border checkpost in the Palakkad district.

The MVD personnel had reportedly taken bribes from motorists, traders and transporters to ferry goods across the border.

Manorama News had reported that an Assistant Motor Vehicle Inspector had tried to flee to the nearby forest when intercepted by the Vigilance.

It is alleged that the officials hide their bribe in the forest, wrapped in leaves.
