SFI leader Nithin Kannadiyil's hand was broken in the clash with teachers.

Malappuram: Local leaders of the Students' Federation of India (SFI) and teachers suffered injuries after an argument spilled over into a clash at a higher secondary school at Pookolathur near Manjeri here on Thursday.

The hand of area president, Nithin Kannadiyil, was broken in the clash.

Area secretary V Abhijith, and local secretary T Rafi and six teachers reportedly sustained injuries. They are being treated at the Manjeri Medical College.

The other day the SFI had called for a strike in educational institutions protesting the murder of its activist Dheeraj Rajendran near the campus of the Government Engineering College in Idukki.

It is understood that the school management had threatened action on a student of the institution, who had participated in the strike. It was to question this decision that the SFI leaders reached the school.

The student leaders have alleged that teachers and the headmistress were rude and assaulted them. The teachers, meanwhile, have levelled similar charges against the members of SFI.
