Ambalavayal (Wayanad): A woman along with her daughter suffered serious injuries in the acid attack carried out by her husband at Adattupara here on Saturday.

The husband Sanal threw acid at Nijitha, who is running a shop at the entrance of the Phantom Rock tourist spot and at her 12-year-old Alakananda, and fled from the scene around 12.30 pm.

The family feud is said to be the reason for the attack. The Ambalavayal police reached the spot and took them to a private hospital.

Later, they were shifted to the ICU of the Kozhikode Medical College Hospital. It is learnt that both of them suffered more than 50 percent burns in their bodies. The police have intensified the search for Sanal.

Both Sanal and Nijitha beloned to Wayand. They shifted their residence to Kottiyoor in Kannur district a few months ago. But they fell out later and Nijitha along with her mother and children came to the Adattupara Phantom Rock area and took a shop on rent.

Sanal, who came on a scooter on Saturday, threw acid on her wife and daughter while being engaged in verbal duel with her wife. He then sped away in his scooter towards the Meenangadi Road. Sanal, who was a cleaner in a private bus, is now working as a security staff in Ernakulam.
