Kaduthuruthy (Kottayam): A bunch of children came to the help of an 80-year-old woman who was unable to find her way home.

Lakshmiamma is a resident of Eravimangalam at Manjoor. The elderly woman, who suffers from memory loss, had lost her way and reached Palakara Junction from Eravimangalam. The incident happened around 6.45pm on Thursday.

Nohal George, 16; Alphonse Jacob Saji, 12; Ashin Thomas, 12; and Nived G Vinod, 10; were on their way back after playing at a nearby house, when they noticed Lakshmiamma, standing by the roadside. The elderly woman asked the children about the way to her home. She also told them she could not walk any further and wanted to lie down.

Children went to a nearby house, got a phone and called the Kaduthuruthy police station. They also informed about the woman's predicament to Alphons' father Saji, who resides nearby. Saji, who is the headmaster of the Njeezhoor St Joseph's LP School, came to the spot and also informed panchayat member Sheeja Saji.

The panchayat member and the police made enquiries with Lakshmiamma. They telephoned Manjoor panchayat member Prathyuksha Sura and passed on the information about the woman.

Prathyuksha Sura arrived at Palakara in a vehicle, and took Lakshmiamma to a relative's house. Meanwhile, Lakshmiamma's neighbours had been searching for her.

Lakshmiamma lives alone. Her daughter, along with her family, resides at Changanassery. The octogenarian had left her home, saying that she was going to her daughter's house.
