National Bravery Award for 5 children from Kerala

Thiruvananthapuram: Five children from Kerala have bagged the National Bravery Award.

Angel Maria John (Ekalavya Award - Rs 75,000), TN Shanis Abdulla (Abhimanyu award - Rs 75,000), and KN Shivakrishnan, K Sheethal Shashi and N Rithujith (General Award - Rs 40,000) have been selected for the prestigious award. 

The National Bravery Award is instituted by the Indian Council for Child Welfare, which will also bear all the educational expenses of these five students.

Angel Maria John was selected for the award for saving a three-year-old boy from a canal. She is the daughter of Joy Abraham and Nidhiya, residents of Ramavarmapuram in Thrissur.

She is a class 4 student of the Devamatha School in Thrissur.

Shanis Abdulla rescued a little girl from the attack of a bull. The son of Kozhikode natives Abdul Azeez and Suhara, Shanis is a class 7 student at the Kadameri Mappila UP school.

Shivakrishnan was able to save a child from drowning in the river. A native of Mananthavady in Wayanad, Shivakrishnan is the son of (late) Premkumar and Latha.

He is a class 10 student of the Thalappuzha Government Higher Secondary School.

Sheethal Shashi saved the lives of three people from drowning in a pond by using floating cans.

The daughter of Kannur natives Shashi and Sheeja, Sheethal is a class 8 student of the Kadannappally Government Higher Secondary School.

Rithujith was rewarded for his timely action that helped a labourer, who was stuck on a coconut tree, to return safely to ground.

He is the son of Malappuram natives Sunil Kumar and Shijila. He is a class 9 student at the Ariyallur MVHSS Higher Secondary School. 

The State Child Welfare Committee has said that the awards will be presented during an event to be held in Delhi.
