Kizhakkambalam (Kochi): A Twenty20 Kizhakkambalam activist, who was assaulted by CPM workers here, passed away on Friday.

The deceased is CK Deepu, 38, from Chayattunjaal in Kaavunguparambu Parappuram Colony.

Deepu, who was assaulted by CPM activists during the 'lights-off protest' conducted on Saturday, was under treatment at a hospital here. He was on ventilator support.

Four were arrested following the incident.

Sainudeen Salam from Parattuveedu, Abdul Rahman from Parattu Biyattu, Basheer from Nedungadan House and Azeez from Valiyaparambil House are among those arrested.

Let facts come out: CPM MLA Sreenijin

Reacting to the news of Deepu's death, Kunnathunad MLA P V Sreenijin said “facts should come out”.

He said he was awaiting the postmortem report.

“It was said that Deepu was suffering from some ailments. He had not told the police anything about the alleged assault,” the CPM MLA said.

The Twenty20's lights-off protest was against Sreenijin.

CPM lynched Deepu

Leader of the Opposition V D Satheesan said Deepu was indeed lynched by the CPM activists who have been unleashing a series of violence in the state.

“This is a clear case of lynching. Deepu is the last victim of CPM's intolerance. They cannot defend themselves in this incident,” the Congress leader said in Thiruvananthapuram.

Former Kunnathunad MLA V P Sajeendran said the CPM activists brutally assaulted Deepu and did not even let him be taken to hospital.
