Palakkad: An NGO that first hired and then reportedly revoked the appointment of gold smuggling case accused Swapna Suresh has courted fresh trouble.

A case has been registered on HRDS India (Highrange Rural Development Society) India by the Commission for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes on complaints of poor quality of housing provided to tribespeople.

The Commission will also probe attempts to construct houses on tribal land taken on lease. The district collector and police chief have been instructed to submit reports.

The New Delhi-based NGO that claims to be contributing to tribal development had recently hired Swapna as its Director CSR before having a rethink. It is understood that Swapna's appointment order has been revoked due to a difference of opinion in the management.

Former BJP minister S Krishna Kumar who chaired the organisation earlier said the appointment was invalid.

However, HRDS project director Biju Krishnan and chief co-ordinator Joy Mathew have claimed otherwise saying Krishna Kumar no longer has a say in such matters.

Biju Krishnan told Manorama News that Krishna Kumar was removed from the organisation six months ago for committing financial fraud to the tune of Rs 1.5 crore.
