Palakkad: The aftershocks of the Kerala trekker episode keep surfacing.
At least five personnel of Kerala Fire and Rescue Services have been transferred for failing to initiate timely rescue of the youngster who was stranded in the Kurumbachi Hills in Malampuzha here for nearly two days earlier this month.
Earlier, the Forest Department had registered a case on the young trekker, Babu and his friends for unauthorised trekking.
In the latest development, District Fire Officer VK Ritheej, who was served a show-cause notice, has been transferred to the Fire & Rescue Service Academy at Viyyur. Besides, four other personnel of the department have also faced action.
The officer and the other staff are accused of failing to intimate the state control room, headquarters, director general and director technical immediately after the incident had come to light.
They are also accused of not assembling adequate staff or equipment to perform the rescue.
Babu was rescued by a team from the mountaineering unit of the Indian Army. Soon after, questions were raised on the efficiency of the state rescue units.
