Kochi: A man, who was acquitted in the 2011 Varapuzha sexual assault case, was found dead in a well in the Raigad district of Maharashtra.
The body of Vinod Kumar has recovered from a well in a tribal colony at Kashid beach village a few days ago. Pointing to murder, the body was tied to a rock.
He was murdered and body dumped in the well likely after a quarrel during a liquor bout, police stated.
Two, including a minor, have been arrested.
Vinod Kumar was a native of Payyannur in Kerala's Kannur district.
Five, including Vinod Kumar, were acquitted in 2016 in the sensational case over the sexual assault of a girl from Varapuzha, Kochi. Two others — Sobha John and ex-Army officer Jayarajan Nair — were convicted.
Vinod Kumar was reportedly working for a resort in the tourist destination on the Arabian Sea coast.
The body was cremated.
