Kitex MD vows to bear lifelong expenses of slain Twenty20 worker Deepu's family

Kochi: Industrialist Sabu M Jacob has said his organisation Twenty20 will bear the lifelong expenses of the family of its worker CK Deepu, who succumbed to injuries from an attack allegedly by CPM activists at Kizhakambalam in Ernakulam district the other day.

Deepu was cremated on Saturday. Jacob made the promise alongisde Deepu's parents, at their house on Sunday. Jacob is the managing director of Kitex Group whose political arm is Twenty20.

He said Twenty20 will not follow the model of other political parties by building memorials for the martyr. "We will not do fundraising campaigns either like what political parties usually do when they get a martyr. We will be with this family throughout," said Jacob.

Deepu, a Dalit youngster was allegedly beaten up by four CPM activists for participating in a 'streetlight challenge' protest against the ruling front.

Deepu was admitted to a private hospital and later shifted for specialised treatment, but he succumbed to the injuries by Friday noon.

The postmortem report stated that Deepu, who had a liver ailment, had died from a head injury.
