Mother, grandmother of injured Kakkanad child attempt suicide at hospital, say reports

Kochi: Even as police were trying to ascertain how a two-year-old girl child received serious injuries at her flat in Kakkanad, her mother and grandmother tried to take their own lives. The suicide bid happened early Thursday morning at the Kolenchery hospital where the child is admitted.

The child's mother tried to slash her hand and the grandmother slit her neck, say reports.

Both are reportedly out of danger as they received prompt medical attention as soon the security personnel found them harming themselves.

Latest reports also say the child's maternal aunt and her live-in partner have been taken into police custody from Bengaluru.

They are being interrogated to know how the child received serious injuries.

As reported earlier the aunt's male partner, Antony Tijin, was under police scrutiny. It is suspected he had beaten up the child.

The child's father, who is estranged from his wife, had claimed Antony is a drug addict.

Antony had however claimed the child was hyperactive and was injured whole aping Spider-Man.
