Pala resident arrested for torture of live-in partner of three years

Pala: A youth, who kept on intimidating and torturing a woman after living with her for three years by giving false promise of marriage, was arrested by the police.

As per the complaint dredge operator Akalakunnam Kanjiramattom Parayil Harikrishnan, 24, abandoned the woman and their newborn. Thereafter, he repeatedly intimidated his former live-in partner both physically and mentally.

The woman, hailing from Peerumedu in Idukki district, fell in love with Harikrishnan after estrangement from her husband whom she had married in 2015.

Believing the marriage offer extended by Harikrishnan as genuine, the woman started living with him since 2018.

When the woman was nine-month pregnant, the accused fell in love with a nursing student in December 2021. Then he told the woman that he was ending relationship with her and was going to marry the nursing student.

After the woman gave birth to a child in January, Harikrishnan alleged maltreated her. She then gave a complaint to the Kerala State Women's Commission. She then started living in a monastery at Vandanpathal along with her child.

But Harikrishhan brought back the woman and their child to his home, promising that he would marry her soon. But he started intimidating the woman again. Fed up with his torture, she gave complaint to Deputy Superintendent of Police Shaju Jose. Though Harikrishnan was called to the DySP office, he did not turn up.

The police then shifted the woman and the child to Mahila Mandiram at Kallara. Later, Harikrishnan sent a legal notice to the woman, saying that he would marry her on March 3. But when she reached the Kozhuvanal sub-registrar office, she found that she was again cheated since Harikrishnan was not present there.

Acting on her complaint, the police arrested Harikrishnan.

Harikrishnan was nabbed by a police team led by Staion House Officer KP Thoson, Sub-Inspector Shaji Sebastine, Assistant SI Biju K Thomas, Senior Civil Police Officer Sherin Stephen and Civil Police Officer Renjith.
