Debutant director Liju Krishna confesses to sexual assault charges; survivor's statement to be recorded

Kochi: Debutant film director Liju Krishna, arrested in connection with the sexual assault of a woman, has confessed to the crime during the course of preliminary interrogation, the police informed. 

The police have found that Liju had stayed with the complainant and the duo visited places the woman referred to in her complaint. The survivor will be produced before a magistrate and her confidential statement would be recorded in the presence of a judicial officer.

After the recording of the statement, the police would seek custody of Liju Krishna for further interrogation and gathering evidence. 

The woman had lodged the complaint with the Info Park police station following which the director was arrested. However, the sexual assault had taken place in a flat which is within the limits of Thrikkakara police station. Hence, the investigation will be handed over to the Thrikkakara police. 

Liju was produced before the court on Monday and remanded in custody. The shooting of the film directed by him was also stopped forthwith.

The complainant had shared a post on social media describing her relationship with Liju and the sexual assault she faced at his hands.

The survivor pointed out that she had assisted with the script of the film and helped in the shooting. Besides, she wrote dialogues, did scripting of song sequences and carried out letter communication with a company in connection with the purchase of the film.  However, she was not given any professional recognition for discharging all these responsibilities, the survivor complained.
