Goon stabs four cops in Kerala's Kollam, nabbed after chase

Four policemen were stabbed by a goon in Kerala's Kollam district before they nabbed him from a busy town in broad daylight on Monday.

Sreejith, Chanthu, Vinod and Jayan, all officers attached to the Kallambalam police station in Kollam, suffered injuries as Anaz Jaan, a historysheeter, wielded his knife at them during a chase.

The incident happened at Parippally town. TV channels aired visuals of the cops chasing Anaz through a busy road. They overpowered him even after being attacked and took him into custody. He was taken to Kallambalam station. Anaz, a native of Varkala in Thiruvananthapuram, is an accused in several cases pertaining to drugs peddling and a bomb attack. He is included in the goons' list prepared by the police. The police nabbed him as part of a hunt for those included in goons' list in the wake of a series of crimes involving such people of late.

The policemen have been admitted to KIMS Hospital in Thiruvananthapuram. Sources said their condition is not serious.

Civil Police Officer Sreejith had a narrow escape as he was stabbed close to his spine.
