Kerala plans new Sunday lottery, Rs 10 hike in ticket fare, more prize money

Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala government has initiated discussions on raising the price of lottery tickets from Rs 40 to Rs 50. They are also considering increasing the prize money for lottery tickets. Meanwhile, the Sunday draw is being resumed from next month after it was suspended following the spread of COVID-19 and the resultant lockdowns.
The draw of the suspended Pournami lottery will restart on the third Sunday of April. Finance Minister K N Balagopal had held discussions with organisations working in the lottery sector regarding the same.
"The government is contemplating resuming the Sunday lottery draw under a different name," Kerala State Lotteries director Abraham Ren said.
Pournami had been replaced by a new monthly lottery called Bhagya Mithra, which was discontinued six months ago.
At present, Kerala has six lotteries and their draws take place from Monday to Saturday (in the same order): Win Win, Stree Shakti, Akshaya, Karunya Plus, Nirmal, Karunya. Besides, there are six bumper lotteries every year.
The draw of Summer Bumper, which offers a first prize of Rs 6 crore, will be held on March 20.
