Laptop used for erasing data from Dileep's iPhone belonged to accused in cheating case

Kochi: Cyber forensic experts have stumbled upon an interesting find during their scrutiny of mobile phones submitted by actor Dileep as part of the probe into the alleged plot to harm cops who were in charge of the 2017 actress assault case.

It was found during forensic scrutiny that the laptop used for deleting the data from Dileep’s phone belonged to an accused in a cheating case. The investigators said the laptop owner was also involved in cases of impersonation as police officer and Narcotics Control Bureau officer.

The laptop with the user Id: ‘Isa Sabrina Cyril’ was used for fudging the phone data.

The Crime Branch, which is probing the conspiracy case, will question the woman having this username to find out her links with the cheating case accused.

The damning piece of evidence was found during the investigation carried out by the probe team. It was scientifically proven during the forensic examination that the laptop was accessed as part of the bid to delete apparently incriminating data.

Somebody from the actors' side had got in touch with the laptop owner whose identity has not been made public yet.

Though this person had logged onto a computer using the login name of a woman running a clothing store in Kozhikode, the laptop was online somewhere in Kochi city.

The preliminary findings of the investigation team suggest that the evidence linked to the conspiracy to eliminate the cops who handled the 2017 case was deleted from the phone with the connivance of the laptop owner.

The police is engaged in a massive effort to retrieve the deleted data.

The forensic examination had earlier found that the data of the iPhone belonging to Dileep was deleted two days prior to the Kerala High Court direction to deposit his phones with the registrar on January 31.
