Differently-abled female staffer at RTO office ends life

Mananthavady: A differently-abled woman, working as a senior clerk at the sub-regional transport office in Mananthavady, was found dead.

Sindhu, 42, of Pulliyarmattathil house at Ellumandam near Edavaka, was found hanging from the ceiling of the house.

According to her relatives, she committed suicide due to mental torture from some of her colleagues in the office.

Sindhu was found dead on Wednesday at her brother PA Jose's house. A spinster, Sindhu used to stay in her brother's house. Two suicide notes were recovered from the spot.

Her brother Noble said that she had told him many times that some of the superior officers mentally tortured her and isolated her in the office for not supporting corruption.

Sindhu had been working at the Mananthavady office for the last nine years.

About six employees, including Sindhu, had a meeting with the Regional Transport Officer (RTO) on Sunday and briefed him about certain issues prevailing in the office.

Wayanad RTO E Mohandas said that Sindhu and others had raised certain office issues. But they have not given any written complaint.

Mananthavady Joint RTO Vinod Krishna, however, said that he was not aware of any issues in the office.

Sindhu is the daughter of Agusthy and the late Alice. Her sisters are Shiny and Bindu.
