The body of the late CPM central committee member M C Josephine who passed away on Sunday was handed over to the Kalamassery Medical College on Monday, as per her wish. The paperwork was completed by her son and Ernakulam district CPM secretary C N Mohan. The body was handed over to the medical college superintendent after the public paid their last respects.

The 73-year-old CPM leader was rushed to the AKG Cooperative hospital in Kannur hospital after she fainted while participating at the 23rd party Congress on Saturday. She was on ventilator support for a few hours after which she passed away on Sunday.

Josephine served as the chairperson of the Kerala State Women's Commission Chairperson for four and a half years during the first Pinarayi Vijayan government. She was also the former Chairman of the Greater Cochin Development Authority. The veteran leader, who  hailed from Ernakulam district, was one of the few Christian women faces of the CPM.

Criticism has surfaced against the party that apart from announcing the demise of the party veteran at the 23rd Party Congress, nothing else was done as a mark of respect to the departed soul.
