Students use their mobile phone flashlights to write an exam at the Maharaja's College in Ernakulam.

The governing council of Maharaja's College in Ernakulam has cancelled the examination written by post-graduate students under mobile phone flashlights.

The incident occurred on Monday when lights went out during an examination.

Images that were taken from the hall show students writing the exam in the flashlights from their phones during the power cut.

The governing council found a serious lapse on the part of four invigilators who were in the hall as mobile phones and other electronic gadgets are prohibited in the examination hall.

The council found that even though the lights were out, as it was daytime there was sufficient natural light for the exam to continue.

The council has sought an explanation from the invigilators. The examinations will be rescheduled later, informed the authorities.
