Puthoor: A verbal spat between the family of a cop and two youths after the SI’s car overtook their bike ended up in a scuffle at Puthoor in Kollam. The 23-year-old son of the SI has been hospitalised after suffering injuries to the head.

Kundara special branch SI S Sugunan, 55; and his son Amal, got into a spat with the youths Gibin Johnson, 29; and Ginu John, 25.

Amal, who was hit on the head with a helmet, has been admitted to the Kottarakkara taluk hospital. SI Sugunan was also assaulted, while his 45-year-old wife Preetha fell on the road amid the scuffle. The youths complained that they too were beaten up.

Following the incident, the police took the men into custody and a case has been registered against them for attacking the SI’s family. The police have also filed a case against the SI and his son for attacking the youths.

The incident happened at Chanthamukku in Puthoor around 9am on Monday. Both the vehicles were travelling along the Cheerankavu Road and heading towards Puthoor. As the car overtook the bike, the youths are said to have verbally abused the SI and family. The SI's son then took photos of the youths on his mobile phone. When they reached Chanthamukku, the youths questioned this and they got into an altercation with the family.
