Heavy rain: Holiday declared for schools in Idukki, Kannur on Thursday

Thiruvananthapuram: In view of heavy rain, a holiday has been declared for educational institutions in Kerala's Kannur and Idukki districts on Thursday.

Only schools will remain closed, Kannur Collector Mir Mohammed Ali clarified.

In Idukki, a holiday has been declared for all educational institutions and professional colleges on Thursday, District Collector Sheeba George said.

The holiday applies to Anganwadis and nurseries as well. However, tests and interviews will be held as scheduled, George said. 

Heavy rain is expected to continue in Kerala for the next few days. Officials have advised people to remain vigilant.

The Idukki Collector has also imposed a ban on the employment of labourers in estate areas of the district.
