Palakkad/Kottakkal: Even innocents were likely targeted by the authorities in the midst of attachment of immovable properties of the Popular Front of India (PFI) leaders to compensate for the losses that occurred during the flash strike called by the recently banned organisation. Revenue Recovery (RR) notice was reportedly affixed on the house of a PFI activist who was murdered five months before the aforementioned general strike (hartal) on September 24.
The deceased Mohammed Subair was the Elappullippara area president of the Islamic outfit. Subair was a native of Kuppiyode in Palakkad district.
The RR notice mentions that all the property in his name will be attached and recovered if the fine is not paid within 15 days. The notice issued by the Palakkad Revenue Recovery Tahsildar was affixed by Elappulli-1 Village Officer.
The late PFI leader had in his name a five-cent land with a shop room and a house at Kuppiyode. The property is beside the Palakkad-Pollachi road. His wife, children and parents live here.
The family alleged that the officials forced them to sign the RR notice when they said they are not willing to do so.
Subair was murdered on April 15, 2022. The trial of the case, in which a district office-bearer of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) is also listed as accused, is on at the Sessions Court, Palakkad.
Two more cases in Palakkad
Revenue Recovery actions are also being initiated against 2 Non-Resident Indians from Palakkad district who have been living abroad for years together. They are Haneefa Chalappuram and Moideen Shah.
Haneefa has been working abroad for the past 17 years. RR notice was pasted on his house at Nagalassery village in Thrithala in Palakkad district. Aloor native Moideen Shah is abroad for the past four years.
Their relatives said they were not in Kerala on the day of the PFI hartal.
Another dead man too
Meanwhile, in Malappuram district too a dead man is on the RR list. A notice of property attachment from the Kottakkal Village Office has been issued against Kottoor native Palliyalil Alavi who died 14 years ago!
Village authorities confirmed that the name, address, and land survey number are that of the deceased Alavi.
The officials later enquired at the house and submitted a report to the Tahsildar that Alavi is no more. Alavi’s children are Muslim League sympathisers.
At Kottakkal Municipality in Malappuram district RR notices have been mistakenly issued and stuck on the houses of three persons, of whom two are Muslim League activists. It is alleged the Revenue Department personnel mistook them for PFI activists and issued the notice.
These Muslim League activists are Puzhikkunnu Kolakkadan Avarankutty and Pulikkode native Vadakkethil Majeed. The third person is Kuttipuram native Faizal.
Avarankutty, aged 61, has 7 cents of land. Majeed’s 2.75 cent land has a house on it.
UDF warns of protests
State Opposition Leader V D Satheeshan and Muslim League Legislature party leader P K Kunhalikkutty warned of strong protest against the unfair targeting of Muslim League members in the name of revenue recovery.
