Customs seize gold worth Rs 1.4 crore at Kochi airport

In a major breakthrough, customs officials at Kochi airport seized gold worth Rs 1.4 crore from two passengers.

The first accused, Muhammad Shameer of Palakkad, arrived from Malaysia and was carrying 1.78 kg of gold, worth Rs 84 lakh.

While a portion of the gold was hidden inside his body as capsules, the remaining metal was molded into a paste and was hidden inside his jeans.

The second passenger, Shereef from Malappuram reached from Dubai. He was caught with 1.25 kg of yellow metal, concealed in his body in four capsules.
