Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Revenue Minister K Rajan on Tuesday said the state is well prepared to prevent and deal with rain disasters. The minister was speaking after a review meeting attended by collectors, deputy collectors and tehsildars of all districts.
"The met department has predicted heavy rain on July 4 and 5. Due to the possibility of heavy rain and strong winds, special attention should be paid to main places in Idukki, Kottayam and Pathanamthitta districts," he said. The minister said Peermade received 100mm of rain on Tuesday.
The incident response system has been prepared in all taluks and preparations for opening camps in all taluks have been completed. "These camps will have special facilities for those suffering from fever, migrant workers and differently-abled persons," he said.
The minister said that there is a misconception among people that only the district collector has the authority to order the cutting of tree branches that pose danger. "Departments concerned and panchayat secretary can cut the branches of trees," he said.
He directed district collectors to inform the public through social media, including Facebook, every hour about the weather warning. This is to avoid the spread of unnecessary and frightening fake news, the minister said.
