Thrissur: The rice sold by the Central government through the National Co-operative Consumer Federation under the 'Bharat' brand has started its sale in Kerala. It is reported that 150 bags of 'ponni' rice were sold in Thrissur alone, Manorama News reported.

Apart from rice, peanuts are also available at a cheaper price than the open market. Peanuts are priced at Rs 60 per kg, the report said.

Rice and pulses are packed separately from FCI godowns for distribution. They are distributed by the Millers Association, Manorama News reported.

It is reported that the vehicles carrying the cheap goods would reach all districts within a week. Earlier, onion was sold at Rs 25 per kg. The facility to buy it online will soon be available, sources said.

At the same time, State Food Minister G R Anil alleged that the sale of rice by the Center is political exploitation.
