Mangaluru: A Malayali youth and his female friend were subjected to moral policing in Karnataka. The two were stopped at Panambur beach by a group of extremist Hindutva activists, who tried to capture videos of the victims.

The incident happened at 4.30 pm on Monday while the victims were taking a stroll along the beach. They were suddenly stopped and interrogated by a group wearing saffron shawls. The group reportedly said that it was wrong for a Hindu woman to talk to a Muslim man. They also claimed that they had the right to question such immoral activities.

After receiving the information, the Panambur police arrived at the spot and rescued the Malayali youth and his friend.

Based on a complaint lodged by the 28-year-old woman, four men – Umesh (23), Sudhir (26), Keerthan Pujari (20), and Prasanth Bhandari (38), were arrested in connection with the incident. Among the booked, three were Shree Ram Sena activists.

The Malayali youth resides in Bondel, and his female friend works in Bengaluru.
