Thrissur native kills self after rejection of EPF claim

Kochi: A Thrissur native, who tried to kill himself at the Provident Fund office here, succumbed on Wednesday. 

According to reports, Perambra native Sivaraman consumed posion at the Kochi Provident Fund Office on Tuesday after authorities rejected an application requesting a withdrawal from his Employees' Provident Fund.

Sivaraman, a cancer patient, retired from service 9 years ago. He had been trying to withdraw a sum of Rs 80,000 from his EPF since then.

Meanwhile, Sivaraman's relatives alleged that an officer at the PF office refused to give him the money due to personal enmity.
