Malappuram: The Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) has instructed party workers against making public statements regarding the Munambam Wakf land issue. IUML state president Panakkad Sadiq Ali Shihab Thangal clarified that the party has already communicated its official position on the matter. He stressed that the League's stance remains unchanged, and any personal opinions expressed by individuals do not reflect the party’s views.

National general secretary PK Kunhalikutty reiterated that maintaining communal harmony is a core policy of the League. "This policy also applies to the Munambam issue. The matter will be discussed within the UDF, with a focus on ensuring that people are not evicted from their homes. The government's delay in addressing the issue is unacceptable," Kunhalikutty said.

IUML leader KM Shaji made a controversial comment on the land issue, which angered the party leadership. Shaji contradicted opposition leader VD Satheesan's claim that the Munambam land was not Wakf property.

Kunhalikutty criticised Shaji's remarks, stating no one needs to attempt to act as the party's spokesperson. He added that with both the Left and the BJP trying to incite communal tensions in the state, no one should contribute to such controversies or stir unnecessary debates.

Meanwhile, senior party leader and MP ET Muhammed Basheer expressed a viewpoint that aligned with that of KM Shaji. Speaking in Delhi, he affirmed that the land in question is indeed Wakf property. He disagreed with any position, regardless of who voices it, that denies the land’s status as Wakf property.

Basheer said, "KM Shaji's remarks are based on factual grounds. The League's position on this matter is clear. IUML has always worked to foster harmony among people. Whether this issue should be raised in the UDF meeting is a subject for discussion. There is no confrontation with the opposition leader. However, we will articulate our stance, which is that the issue must be addressed while recognising the land as Wakf property," he said.
