4 schoolgirls killed after truck falls on them in Palakkad

Palakkad: In a shocking incident, a truck skidded and fell on students, killing four girls at Karimba here on Thursday evening. Though the trapped students were rescued and rushed to the hospital, they succumbed to injuries.
ESAF Hospital authorities confirmed that the three students were brought dead. Later, Mothercare Hospital declared the fourth girl dead. The deceased are identified as Cherulli natives Irfana, Nitha, Ridha and Ayisha.
Manorama News reported that four Karimba Government Higher Secondary School students met with the accident while returning home. Education Minister V Sivankutty asked the district collector to file a report on the accident.
A witness told Manorama News that the truck skidded and fell on the students after colliding with another truck. Local residents said accidents are common at the spot due to the unscientific road construction. They alleged authorities had not paid attention to their calls to address the issue.
Residents and students staged a protest on the road over the accident. They blocked the police from restoring traffic until authorities found a solution to the accidents.
