Thiruvananthapuram: In the early hours of Christmas Day, a three-day-old girl was found in the "Ammathottil" (baby cradle) at the Kerala State Child Welfare Committee here, according to an official release. The release added that this marks the 22nd infant received at the Thiruvananthapuram "Ammathottil" this year.

State Health and Women and Child Development Minister Veena George shared the joyful news on Facebook, inviting suggestions from the public for naming the baby, making the occasion even more special.

The 'Ammathottil' initiative, managed by the Kerala State Council for Child Welfare, provides a secure space for abandoned, relinquished, or destitute babies.

Infants brought through the 'Ammathottil' system are looked after at a cutting-edge childcare facility in Thycaud, Thiruvananthapuram. This centre operates round-the-clock with a team that includes two doctors, eight nurses, and 76 caretakers dedicated to the children's care.
