Alappuzha: The Alappuzha North police arrested four people on Friday in connection with the attack on a youth. The accused assaulted Shaji Kannan of Kandathil Veetil in Karalakam, who is currently receiving treatment at Vandanam Medical College Hospital. Two attackers are from Shaji's neighbourhood, while the other two are their friends.

Shaji was struck on the head with an iron rod. Police sources indicate that the attack was motivated by personal vengeance, with the first accused holding a grudge against Shaji Kannan. The arrested individuals are Kalarickachira Sumesh (22), the first accused; Vaisakh (20), the second accused, also from Kalarickachira; Naduvilemuriyil Aadhil (21), the third accused; and Chungham Nadichirayil Sreejith (33), the fourth accused.

According to Rajesh MK, Inspector at Alappuzha North station, the motive behind the attack stems from an earlier incident in which Shaji Kannan had assaulted Sumesh. "A complaint was filed regarding this several months ago. On the day of the attack, the four accused were drinking at the Karalakam paddy field near their homes when they saw Shaji. Enraged upon seeing him, the accused attacked Shaji, striking him on the head with an iron rod," he explained. The paddy field and the homes of both the accused and the victim are located nearby. The incident happened on December 26 around 1 pm.

The accused have been charged under various sections of BNS, including 115(2) (voluntarily causing hurt), 118(1) (causing harm to another person using dangerous tools or methods), 109(1) (attempt to murder), and 3(5) (multiple people committing a criminal act with a common intention).
