Thrissur: The Additional District Magistrate (ADM) has granted permission for the ceremonial fireworks display at the Paramekkavu Vela, scheduled for Friday. The approval allows the use of up to 100 kilograms of fireworks, with strict adherence to the Petroleum and Explosives Safety Organisation (PESO) guidelines.
Permission for the Thiruvambady Vela fireworks, scheduled for January 5, is expected to be granted on Friday. Both Vela fireworks displays will take place at Thekkinkadu Maidan.
The High Court recently directed the ADM to decide promptly upon receiving the application for the fireworks display. Following this, the ADM granted permission in compliance with established guidelines. The approval letter from the ADM specifies that the decision was made to respect devotees' faith and preserve traditions.
The fireworks display is to be conducted between 12.30 am and 2 am. A barricade must be set up within a 100-metre radius to keep people at a safe distance. The use of explosive firecrackers is strictly prohibited. Additionally, an unedited video recording of the fireworks must be submitted to the ADM’s office within three days.
The Thiruvambady Devaswom submitted the necessary documents to the ADM on Wednesday. The fireworks display is scheduled for the night of January 5, after the Panchavadyam performance at Naikanal.
The current approval applies only to the Vela festivities. Concerns regarding the Thrissur Pooram fireworks still persist. Discussions are ongoing between the Paramekkavu and Thiruvambady Devaswoms on navigating the amendments to central laws affecting the Pooram fireworks.
