P V Anvar MLA and four others who were arrested by Nilambur police for vandalising the divisional forest office, Nilambur caused loss to government property worth Rs 35,000, and they kicked and assaulted cops on duty at the office, according to the remand report produced by Nilambur SHO Rajendran Nair before the Judicial first class magistrate court, Nilambur.

As per the remand report, the accused in custody have cases registered against them in various criminal cases, and they got together to vandalize government property.

Around 40 activists led by P V Anvar marched towards the divisional forest office and raised slogans by staging a sit-in on Sunday. Ten of the party workers shoved the cops on duty, kicked and assaulted them and demolished the fabrication door of the office.

The clocks, tube lights, chairs, tables and office doors were destroyed. Nilambur North DFO also submitted a report on loss resulting from the attack, the police said in the remand report.

The police have noted that if granted bail, there is the possibility of tampering with evidence, and the public would view such acts with levity. There is also a chance of the accused going into hiding.

The list of accused includes P V Anvar, Mustafa, Shoukathali, Sudheer Babu and Kunji Muhammad. P V Anvar was arrested on Sunday night at his residence in Edavanna. He was later remanded to 14 days in judicial custody and was moved to the Tavanur sub-jail.

The incident pertaining to the arrest happened on Sunday morning. P V Anvar and his party workers staged a protest at Nilmabur North DFO office following the death of a 35-year-old man belonging to the Cholanaikar tribe who was trampled to death by an elephant. Mani was killed in the Karulai forest range. The protest was staged, alleging apathy on the part of the forest department.
