Nilambur MLA PV Anvar met IUML State President Sayyid Sadiq Ali Shihab Thangal at Panakkad on Tuesday as part of his ongoing talks with UDF leaders. The meeting comes in the wake of Anvar’s willingness to align with the United Democratic Front (UDF) to challenge the Pinarayi Vijayan-led government in Kerala.
On Monday, after being released on bail in the Nilambur forest office vandalism case, Anvar publicly stated his readiness to collaborate with the UDF. He emphasised that the fight against the ruling government should be a collective effort rather than an individual one. Anvar also expressed gratitude to UDF leaders who extended their support following his arrest and added that he is willing to make necessary compromises for the larger cause.
Anvar was released from judicial custody on Monday after spending nearly 20 hours in jail. His arrest and subsequent remarks have reignited discussions about his potential entry into the UDF.
While some UDF leaders, including PK Kunhalikutty, hinted at informal discussions regarding Anvar’s induction, others have expressed reservations. VD Satheesan denied knowledge of any such talks and stated that the matter requires further deliberation. He also stated that Anvar's allegations against him was forced by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. The RSP has also raised objections, urging Anvar to clarify his political stance before any decision is made.
Congress leader VT Balram, in a Facebook post, expressed conditional support for Anvar’s collaboration with the UDF. Balram outlined four demands, including the retraction of defamatory comments against Rahul Gandhi, withdrawal of the Rs 150-crore allegation against VD Satheesan, and an apology for casteist remarks made during the Chelakkara election campaign. He also called for Anvar to adopt a more cooperative and less authoritarian attitude.
