Kozhikode: The Nadakkavu police on Wednesday arrested two suspects who were absconding in connection with the 2024 fake wedding extortion case. The duo Vemmullil Majeed (49) and Chettiyanthodi Mohammed Saleem (38), was booked from their hideout in Pulamanthole, Malappuram.

The first accused, Irshana, who posed as the bride, was arrested in August 2024 in Nileshwar, Kasaragod. The fourth member of the gang remains at large.

The incident took place in February 2024 in Kozhikode. The complainant, who is a divorcee, had been working in a private hospital in Karnataka after retirement when the gang approached him with the wedding proposal from Irshana. They introduced a man as Irshana's brother and conducted a nikkah in his presence. 

According to the police, the gang demanded Rs 5 lakh to arrange a house for the couple. Once the amount was credited, they took him to a mosque for Friday namaz at a mosque in Nadakkavu and fled. On the way, they took his gadgets from the car.

Assistant Sub-Inspector Sreekanth and Senior Civil Police Officer Nikhil from Nadakkavu police station arrested Majeed and Saleem after tracking their location with the assistance of the Cyber Cell.
