Kozhikode: After a month's investigation, Vellayil Police have identified the actual owner of the luxury vehicle which caused the accident that killed a youth during the filming of an advertisement on December 10, 2024.

Police found out that AK Noufal, a native of Kadalundi, in Kozhikode, was the car's real owner. The investigation report and documents will be presented to the court soon.

The probe also found that Rs 1.35 crore, the money to buy the car, was paid through Noufal's wife's account. The sale agreement was initially in her name, but it was later transferred to his name, police said.

Noufal will now be the third accused in the case as he had bought the car illegally and used it in the state.

The month-long investigation took the three-member team to Hyderabad and Delhi last week. Initially, cops thought the car belonged to Ashwin Jain, a Hyderabad resident.

The car was owned by a company that buys and sells luxury vehicles. But police found out that firm sold the car to another one in Delhi. Noufal purchased the car from this Delhi-based dealer.

Noufal is a friend of Sabid, the first accused in the case, who hails from Malappuram.

Alvin (20), son of Suresh and Bindu of Vadakara, died after being hit by a car while filming a race on Beach Road. Following the accident, police took into custody Sabid Rahman of Manjeri and Muhammed Rabis of Edasheri, who were driving the cars involved. Sabid's driving license has been suspended. The accident occurred while filming promotional reels for a car accessories store.
