Bengaluru: Renowned cardiac surgeon Dr K M Cherian passed away on Saturday night in Bengaluru. Dr Cherian made history as the first surgeon in India to perform a coronary artery bypass surgery.

In recognition of his contributions to the field of medicine, he was honoured with the Padma Shri award in 1991. The funeral is scheduled for Thursday.
