KSRTC workers to begin strike at midnight

Thiruvananthapuram: Workers of the Transport Democratic Federation (TDF), a coalition of INTUC-affiliated unions in KSRTC, will observe 24-hour strike from Monday midnight. KSRTC CMD Pramoj Sankar has issued a circular declaring 'dies non'. He had held discussions with the workers, but they refused to call off the strike without meeting their demands.
The workers' key demands include timely salary, pension disbursal, the release of the pending 31 per cent Dearness Allowance (DA), halting the privatisation of nationalised routes, and the issuance of a government order to implement a salary revision agreement.
Despite assurances from the Chief Minister and Transport Minister that KSRTC employees would receive their salaries before the 5th of each month, delays persist, with workers still receiving payments only by mid-month.
Meanwhile, the government has instructed KSRTC management to take a strict approach towards the strike, with officials required to report to work. Leave will only be approved with a medical certificate from a civil surgeon or higher-ranking officer. The government also directed KSRTC to maximize services with temporary employees. Those failing to report for duty will be barred from future employment, and striking employees will need special permission from KSRTC headquarters to resume work.
